Have you been suffering with low sex-drive, impotence, mood-swings, irritability, lack of focus or depression? Read on to find out how changing your everyday grooming habits might ease symptoms.
We thought since Father’s Day is coming up we’d write a post for the guys (although girls, you might want to read this too).
Let’s talk about hormones.
If you knew items you used in your everyday grooming routine could be lowering your testosterone you’d want to know about it right?
We thought so.
Low testosterone can lead to serious problems. Like decreased libido, impotence, infertility, irritability, mood swings and depression (1). All symptoms bound to have a negative impact on your wellbeing and your relationship.
What’s causing it?
You may be unaware, but products you use as part of your everyday grooming routine contain harmful chemicals. Parabens and formaldehydes – preservatives found in many soaps, shampoos and deodorants – are two of these chemicals. And both have been shown to lower testosterone levels (2).
Although they’re usually found in non-harmful amounts, repeated use of them can lead to a build-up in concentration levels in your system. It’s this build up that causes long term problems, like lowered testosterone.
Worse still, many of these chemicals are also found in the foods you eat (3). As you can imagine, these only serves to exacerbate the problem. But you can avoid this by make a few small lifestyle changes.
Reap the rewards of the organic lifestyle.
A simple change to your daily grooming habits – like switching your everyday products for organic equivalents – could help suppress the build-up of these harmful chemicals. Organic products are free of Parabens and formaldehydes, so they’re naturally better for your hormones. If in doubt check the label of the products you’re using. They’ll always tell you if they’re preservative free.
You should also consider switching to natural and organic whole foods, instead of processed junk foods. They’re a little more expensive, but they’re much better for your overall well-being, so it’s a small price to pay.
You can also maintain healthy hormones by adopting a regular exercise regime, getting more direct sunlight exposure, reducing your stress-levels and adding more nutrient rich vegetables to your diet. Whilst none of these are a cure, they’re all small changes that will have a positive impact on your testosterone levels.
If you’re suffering from any of the symptoms described above and you want to do something about it, then we recommend trying out some of the suggestions we’ve made here. It might be just the trick you need to ignite the fire in your belly and in your relationship.
